Migration is a difficult time for geese and ducks, as they must travel long distances. Along the way, they can become victims of collisions, extreme weather, predators or casualties of the hunting season. For example, this Canada Goose was admitted to Le Nichoir after accidentally being hit by a car. Upon admission, an x-ray was taken to ensure the bird had no internal injuries or fractures. To our surprise, the x-rays revealed that the bird had been shot 4 times!

Luckily, it had no broken bones and only superficial wounds. Having been given pain relief medication and an antibiotic, the goose is now in Le Nichoir’s large aquatic aviary, where she can safely stay to regain her strength and heal prior to being released for the long flight south.
