Most of us know that pollinators are an important part of the ecosystem but did you know that not only bees pollinate? Learn about the importance and variety of pollinating animals.

Note this presentation will be given in English with a bilingual question period.

Rigaud - Site ornithologique d'exception

Throughout the month of May …

Rigaud Mountain stands in an area that is considered the warmest in Quebec. It’s known as one of the richest birdwatching areas in Quebec with over 250 species visiting the mountain and 150 of these actually nesting on the mountain.

Throughout the month of May, most species are returning to their breeding sites and many can be seen performing their courtship rituals to impress the females.

The Club ornithologique Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Le Nichoir and the Sentiers de L’escapade have come together to offer you a series of activities to help you discover the richness of the Rigaud Mountain and the birds that inhabit it.

 

Family Activity – Build a birdhouse – May 4 – Presented by Le Nichoir

Build a bird house

Le Nichoir is organizing a workshop for you and your family to build your own birdhouse. The construction is easy and straightforward for children who will be able to keep their work and hang it up at home.

Birdwatching during the spring nesting period –  May 11 – Presented by Club ornithologique Vaudreuil-Soulanges

Birdwatching

Come join the Club d’ornithologie Vaudreuil-Soulanges in a birdwatching walk. Timed in the middle of the migration season, this walk will give you a great introduction into birdwatching and the richness of Rigaud Mountain. Come meet these nature enthusiasts ready to share their passion and knowledge with you. Identification guide and binoculars will be provided.

Time: 8 am to 10 am

Note: In case of adverse weather conditions the activity will be postponed to May 12. This activity will be given in French.

 

Family Activity – Songs and sounds – May 18 – Presented by Le Nichoir

Songs and Sounds

Learn to listen to and recognize some of the common sounds of spring. Come join one of Le Nichoir’s biologists for a walk in the Clarke Sydenham Nature Reserve and a series of fun activities for all ages.

We often think of bird migration as a simple flight from north to south but it is in reality much more complicated. Some migrations are long, others short, sometimes erratic or even optional. And how do birds find their way around and manage to come back to the same place year after year? Discover the fascinating phenomenon of bird migration with one of Le Nichoir’s biologists.

Conference – The birds of our backyards – May 30 – Presented by Club ornithologique Vaudreuil-Soulanges

American Robin

With one of the passionate members of the Club d’ornithologie Vaudreuil-Soulanges, learn to listen to and recognize some of the common sounds of spring. Small wild birds brighten our days by visiting our backyard feeders or nesting in our trees or under our eaves to raise their chicks away from predators.

Many species considered common are often seen in our neighbourhoods. We recognize them easily but many of these birds have fascinating behaviours that are worth paying more attention to. A picture slideshow with a short explanation of each species will be presented.

Special Activity « Les oiseaux du Mont Rigaud »

Throughout the month of May, we invite you to drop in at the Chalet de L’escapade to participate in our identification activity for the birds that you can expect to see in the Sentiers de L’escapade. A personalized guide and binoculars will be available.

Registration not required.
