L\u2019automne dernier Le Nichoir a eu la fiert\u00e9 de lancer OARS (Oil-spill Avian Response System), un projet con\u00e7u pour cr\u00e9er \u00e0 travers le Qu\u00e9bec un r\u00e9seau de quarante professionnels form\u00e9s pour traiter s\u00e9curitairement les oiseaux sauvages mazout\u00e9s.<\/span><\/p>\n

En ao\u00fbt, International Bird Rescue (IBR) est venu donner au Nichoir deux sessions de formation sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e. La premi\u00e8re, \u00ab\u00a0Les d\u00e9versements d\u2019hydrocarbures et la faune aviaire\u00a0\u00bb, explorait les effets des hydrocarbures sur la physiologie des oiseaux afin d\u2019am\u00e9liorer les r\u00e9sultats des traitements. La seconde, \u00ab\u00a0Le lavage de la faune aviaire mazout\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb, consistait en des travaux pratiques.<\/span><\/p>\n

La formation fut une r\u00e9ussite \u00e9clatante et elle fournit \u00e0 notre \u00e9quipe une pr\u00e9cieuse occasion de collaborer avec d\u2019autres professionnels de la province qui pourraient, un jour, avoir \u00e0 r\u00e9agir \u00e0 un d\u00e9versement d\u2019hydrocarbures. Michelle et Barbara, d\u2019IBR, partag\u00e8rent une mine de connaissances et d\u2019exp\u00e9rience avec des participants tr\u00e8s impliqu\u00e9s et enthousiastes. Cela fit chaud au c\u0153ur de voir tant de sourires, de d\u00e9sir d\u2019apprendre et d\u2019enthousiasme pour le r\u00e9seautage..<\/span><\/p>\n

Ces sessions ont ouvert la porte \u00e0 de nouveaux partenariats et ont fourni au Nichoir les\u00a0 outils et les comp\u00e9tences n\u00e9cessaires pour intervenir efficacement s\u2019il devait \u00eatre mis \u00e0 contribution par suite d\u2019un d\u00e9versement d\u2019hydrocarbures.<\/span><\/p>\n

La prochaine phase d\u2019OARS sera la construction d\u2019une voli\u00e8re pour oiseaux aquatiques. Notre comit\u00e9 sp\u00e9cial y travaille fort et pr\u00e9voit qu\u2019elle commencera en 2026. Restez \u00e0 l\u2019aff\u00fbt des mises \u00e0 jour \u00e0 venir\u00a0!<\/span><\/p>\n

Ce projet a \u00e9t\u00e9 entrepris avec le soutien financier du gouvernement du Canada qui, par le biais du\u00a0 Fonds pour dommages \u00e0 l\u2019environnement, a fourni \u00e0 OARS jusqu\u2019\u00e0 117 700 $.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n
