The busy season began in mid-April, a month earlier than usual. Since then our volunteers and staff have been caring for and hand feeding over 250 wild bird patients on-site. Three of these are the Common ravens which, as many of you know, were admitted in mid-April after their nest was displaced. Arriving as nestlings, the ravens are now fully grown and thriving, not to mention eating a lot!
Our team was thrilled to recently release a Whip-Poor-Will and Scarlet Tanager, both uncommon patients to Le Nichoir. We have also re-nested fourteen goslings, happily adopted by local goose parents, and released handfuls of other birds such as a Swainson’s Thrush, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler and American Woodcock. We’ve had our hands full!

Le Nichoir is always looking for new volunteers to join our team, especially in the summer months. Whether you are an animal lover, or interested in wildlife conservation, we have volunteer opportunities that suit different interests and skill sets. If you have any questions about what is involved to become a volunteer do not hesitate to contact Jamie, our volunteer coordinator. She would love to hear from you.
Wishing you a great summer,
Susan
