Feeding birds bread distracts wild birds from eating more nutritious foods because bread lacks the nutrients and proteins that a bird needs to remain healthy.  In some cases, bread has also resulted in the death of birds by choking or causing an impaction in their digestive system.

In general, people should not feed wild ducks or wild geese bread or any other foods. Ducks and geese can become friendly very easily by feeding them, putting the birds at risk of becoming too dependent on people for food, and also being injured due to people’s ill intentions.

If you are adamant about feeding wild ducks and wild geese, Le Nichoir suggests feeding them spinach, wild bird seed and cracked corn.
