The Snow Bunting is a small songbird we find in our region during the winter months. Snow Buntings enjoy cold weather and spend their summers in the high Arctic. Males will return North when temperatures are still as cold as -30°C in order to secure a quality nesting spot.
Unlike most birds, the change in their plumage colours is not due to molt (growing new feathers), but rather from the bird rubbing its feathers and wearing down the brown tips to reveal the white underneath!
