The Bonaparte’s Gull spent several weeks in rehabilitation after arriving at Le Nichoir with a wing injury. Its recovery was challenging, with complications along the way and a poor appetite that made rebuilding its strength difficult.
Thanks to the persistence and expertise of our team, the gull’s injury healed, its appetite returned, and it gradually regained its strength. Once fully recovered and in excellent condition, it was successfully released back into the wild.
Every release is rewarding, but seeing this gull take flight after such a difficult journey was especially meaningful to our staff and volunteers.

The Bonaparte’s Gull is one of the few gull species that regularly nests in trees. During the summer breeding season, they rely heavily on an insect diet and can be confused with terns due to their graceful flight.
