Le Nichoir is very pleased to announce that it has received a $19,433 grant from Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) and a $6,388 grant from TD Friends of the Environment Foundation to increase the educational program capacity of the Centre.
Le Nichoir continues its capital campaign to build a new Wild Bird Conservation Centre at our present location at the entrance to the Nature Conservancy of Canada Clarke-Sydenham Nature Reserve. In parallel with the advancement of the New Centre capital campaign, Le Nichoir has embarked on a project to increase the Centre’s educational program capacity.
Our educational program goal is to leverage Le Nichoir’s unique location, perspective and knowledge to offer a program that creates a strong desire to learn more, to conserve and to co-exist with wild birds.
Specifically, these grants allow us to develop our exciting new program “Bird Adaptations: Custom made for Habitat”. The program will teach children about birds’ morphological adaptations (beak, wings, feet, etc.) to their habitat and diet.
We will begin offering our program in French and English to children 8 to 12 years old in their schools and other off-site locations in 2014.
Le Nichoir would like to thank Mountain Equipment Co-op and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation for their generous financial contributions to this project.
