Early one Tuesday morning, a Saint-Lazare resident heard a distressed peeping coming from a nearby sewer. Intrigued, she approached and noticed a dozen mallard ducklings trapped inside. Their mother was lying on the road, the unfortunate victim of a car collision. Understanding the severity of the situation, the good Samaritan quickly jumped into action and was able to get all the ducklings safely out of the sewer with the help of local municipal workers. She drove the ducklings straight to Le Nichoir. Thankfully, other than being wet, cold and shaken from the day’s events, the little ones arrived at our centre unscathed. They perked up as they cozied up together in their warm incubator. The siblings are now doing well, swimming, eating lots of greens and nesting together in the company of other orphaned wild ducklings!
