Summers are our busy season! With over 300 birds currently on site, Le Nichoir’s team of staff and volunteers are working extremely hard to ensure each bird is well cared for.
This year, we have volunteers and staff members traveling long distances to come and give a hand, including individuals from Piedmont, Mirabel, Greenfield Park and even Baie Comeau! Whether local or from afar, each team member’s contribution is equally valuable in helping us provide birds with the care they need before they are released back into the wild. Successful releases so far this summer include a beautiful Bay-breasted warbler brought to Le Nichoir after it hit a window and a Common loon found on a road, unable to fly.
We recently received an influx of calls concerning abandoned Mallard ducklings. It’s important to remember that Mallards, along with most other migratory species, are protected by the Migratory Bird Convention Act and require Federal permits to care for them. If you come across a wild bird in distress and are unsure what to do, visit the Bird Help section of our website for general FAQs, including answers to the questions we are frequently asked on our Wild Bird Helpline . Please feel free to contact us at 450 458-2809 with any questions.
From the whole team at Le Nichoir, we thank you for your continued support and wish you a great summer.
